There is no standard procedure for employment of sign language interpreters Nigeria, this is because sign language itself is still evolving and yet to be recognized as an official language in the Nigeria constitution. We are yet to have Sign education programs in or academic institutions. However, the only way to engage a sign language interpreters is through referrals by ASLIN or NNAD and individuals. It is most preferred by the Deaf to be contact before engaging an interpreter to work for them. This is because so many individuals with less or no skills takes the interpreting assignments due to rewards that comes with it and they ended up oppressing the Deaf.
